Our team at Whym loves to send our friends on vacations they will never forget! Having a little piece of your favorite vacation or being able to share it with your favorite people is always a nice gesture and let’s be honest, sometimes we just can’t help ourselves. This post isn’t going to bash the I heart NY tee or bikini shaped shot glass- we think cliche souvenirs certainly have their place! But we’re excited to give some more practical souvenir ideas that you’ll be able to cherish a little longer than, say, a tropical keychain with Ashley’s name on it.
The theme is “locally-crafted” and “useful” and if you’re traveling somewhere known to get tourists, you should have a pretty easy way to find all of these suggestions! Happy traveling and here’s to becoming a souvenir guru!
FOR THE ART LOVER
Any kind of local art to the city that you are visiting is thoughtful idea for artistic people. Just make sure that it’s something that will fit into your luggage on the way back. A small painted canvas or locally crafted jewelry are great ideas that can be kept forever.
FOR THE AMATEUR CHEF
We all have an amateur chef in our lives and we all that they love receiving anything to help them be cultured in their culinary arts. What better way than to bring back some locally grown herbs and spices or a nice bottle of wine!
FOR THE FASHIONISTA
This is an easy souvenir to bring back because clothing or jewelry won’t take up much space! Get inspired on your next trip and bring back something that embodies the essence of the destination!
FOR THE FOODIE
We all know a foodie or two… or a hundred. Foodie culture has peaked and a delicious souvenir will always be appreciated no matter who it’s for! Think about the things that you could only get where you traveled to. Something that when you get back home, you’ll think “Damn! I wish we could go back to that vacation and eat all the local goodies.”
FOR THE FITNESS FANATIC
This one is a bit more tricky and may require some thinking outside the box. A locally made headband or fanny pack or even a decorated water bottle would always go to good use!
FOR THE BOOKWORM
Books and journals always make for great souvenir gifts! There are many tourist-y areas that have locally decorated journally material or even nicer hand-crafted leather books that would make great coffee table accents.
FOR THE DESIGN LOVER
Candles! When was the last time you received a candle as a gift and were disappointed? Exactly! Candles always get put to use and they make great decor any home.
FOR THE ANIMAL LOVER
That friend whose dog is literally their child, will always be stoked on a souvenir collar or leash! Small toys, and little doggo clothes are also fun ideas that will always travel back without any hassle.
FOR THE MUSICIAN
Depending on where you’re traveling, you may be able to find some cool handcrafted instruments. If this isn’t the case, try to find a local record store and find something that embodies the vibe of the vacation and bring it back with you!
